New Library Preliminary Design
18 02 2010A lot of the new libraries around town have been getting attention lately as projects like Anacostia and Tenley have broken ground and will be finished up this year, but excitingly there are even more cutting edge designs still in the pipe line. We got our hands on these preliminary renderings for the Francis Gregory Library in SE and we are loving it!
The cool diamond pattered design is a collaboration between Adjaye Associates and Weincek Associates. The new library will include a children’s program room, large program room for up to 100 people, two conference rooms, and an outdoor seating area. Isn’t it amazing that the most interesting and innovative architecture being built in our city is libraries!

That thing is so tacky is hurts. Talk about wall paper!
I like it a lot! On top of the really great look it is practical in letting in lots of sunlight with out going to typical design like a glass wall.

Very distinctive and original; I like it too.
i like the interior. the exterior… argyle is better left to socks and preppy sweaters. rework the concept to be less garish and more subtle.
I think the interior is whimsical and charming. The way it arranges books around the perimiter and on low shelves is very nice – it keeps the books in sight, but also comfortable.
The exterior needs a little work – perhaps a better scale shift at the door.
