O Street Market Back On!!!
11 06 2010Another year of inactivity on the O Street Market project, but all that is about to change! Originally built back in 1881, only the facade of the building stands today and other than a few zoning hearings back in 2008, not much has happened until now… come this September Roadside Development is finally ready to start work!

Construction is slated to commence in September 2010 with the preservation and securing of the historic market structure. This will be succeeded by the closing of the Giant Food store in January 2011 and the razing of the store and excavation beginning in February 2011. The Giant will reopen twenty-four months after closing with hotel and housing opening a year later. We are excited to see how the reuse of the historic building looks and we will be sure to keep you updated.

This is a big deal and I think will go a long way for this neighborhood! I am excited to see it come to life and bring people back to the area for reasons other than that they walked the wrong way from the convention center and are lost.
Thanks for the update, this is great news!
Believe it when I see it in September 2010! Here’s hoping you’re right!!
Great news. Lets hope there won’t be any more delays from the usual crowd of naysayers, complainers and whiners. (You know who you are)
VIng Rhames in Pulp Fiction said it best. “You’ve lost your L.A. privileges.”
At some point, you lose your right to obstruct, impede and complain, just in hope of getting paid, or getting a piece of the action.
I will believe that O St Market will get built when I see it. I looked at the Shaw area in 2007 and each year since I have heard O St market is coming soon! Dates just passed by and no progress was made.
Kudos to Alex Padro and Jack Evans for keeping this project on the table. Although the visual progress has been delayed the background work continued . . . we will get a nice development out of it.
