“Utopia” Now “Louis at 14th”

22 02 2012

Back in 2010, the planned massive Utopia development at 14th and U announced plans to move forward with the 267-unit, 42,000 sq ft mixed-use project, and now almost two years later they are finally ready to break ground, but with a new name! The partnership between Georgetown Strategic Capital and JBG will bring the Eric Colbert designed “Louis at 14th” (new rendering below) to 14th and U Street with plans still to preserve of some of the historic facades along the U Street side.

Once complete, in addition to the large amount of retail space, the residential building will include the ubiquitous rooftop with pool, grills, a bar and even a fire pit! It will be interesting to see what major tenants will fill the retail space.

Small point, but do you know if the official name is pronounce Looey or Lewis?
For what it’s worth, I don’t love the new name, but “Utopia” was no gem either.
