Great Outdoors: P Street

22 02 2013

Georgetown has its share of impressive urban garden backyards, but this one on P Street NW really stands out! The large walled garden and brick traces surround a nice size pool with plenty of space to entertain. In addition to all the landscaping and flowers, there is also some type of blobular art sculpture and a gong, which just had to be expensive.

More pictures after the jump, including the aforementioned gong…

New Eco-District for SW

18 07 2012

Just this month the National Capital Planning Commission has finally released the highly anticipated new Eco-District designed for SW! As you can see the plan includes lots more green areas and aims to bring back a little life to an area around L’Enfant plaza blighted by concrete extreme brutalism block killers. The transformation of the 15 block area just south of the National Mall is planned to take place slowly over the next decade but will result in well planned and sustainable developments.

A particularly interesting part of the plan includes building over the SW Freeway air rights with new buildings and solar panels… sounds good to us, what do you think?

Great Outdoors: Lake Barcroft

19 06 2012

A look at the areas most interesting and impressive outdoor spaces.

Sometimes you don’t really need to do much to a property and let its location speak for itself. That’s almost always the case with lakeside properties, but usually it take a bit of a drive out to Lake Anna or Deep Creek Lake to find a really stunning lakeside property. However only seven mile from downtown in Falls Church is an exception to that rule in Lake Barcroft and this $5 million mansion really takes advantage of the water!

The six bed, six bath 8,600 sq-ft house is built right along the shoreline of Lake Barcroft. Designed by Charles M. Goodman there is a private pool deck, boat dock and plenty of terraced greenery. Looking at the pictures, isn’t it hard to believe this is so close to town?

Check out a bunch more photos after the jump including an amazing sunset…

Great Outdoors: Gurney Pavilion

28 05 2012

A look at the areas most interesting and impressive outdoor spaces.

We just love spaces that bring the outdoors inside and this new garden pavilion by local prolific residential architect Robert Gurney strikes a nice balance between nature and a modern contemporary structure! The new pavilion, intended for year round use is the center piece of a large landscaped terrace and outdoor pool.

The stainless steel roof floats above a dry stacked slate wall and frameless glass walls offering views of the wooded area, pool, and the landscaping. To reinforce the connection between the interior and exterior space the glass walls pivot fully opening up the space.

This French Regency style estate right on Rock Creek Park certainly makes good use of it proximity to the park with its massive slate terrace and tons of outdoor furniture to fill it up. There is also some nicely manicured hedges that look like they would be a pain to maintain, but who are we kidding, a professional landscaper’s handy work is definitely being utilized to keep this outdoor space in tip top shape.

The property has been on the market for a while and just last month had a $596k price drop to the current list price of $7,399,000.
