H Street - Ice Cream Shop and Latin-African Fusion restaurant coming to the 1300 block of H street.  Just don’t ask us what type of food they will be serving, we will leave that to the comments section over at FT. [Frozen Tropics]

Penn Quarter - Nando’s Restaurant has got a liquor license permit up. However the hearing isn’t till July and the interior is still unfinished drywall and exposed brick, so the wait continues. For some reason whenever we see the sign for Nando’s it makes us think of a Nintendo game, maybe it’s the red font color or the crazy cartoon chicken! [PennQuarterLiving]

Shaw - Sign a petition to help keep the City Market at O project moving forward. Whether or not you like the area’s Giant, we say variety is the spice of life, plus as we have said in the past, that building is just too cool looking to let sit around empty for much longer. [LifeinMVS]

Anacostia - Is there any specific reason to carpet exterior stairs, or is it just for looks? (trying not to judge…).  Just be happy they chose green, we’ve seen those outdoor carpets in other colors too. Believe us, red carpets only look good in Hollywood! [AnacostiaNow]

Bloomingdale - Rowhomes on North Captitol Street and Hanover Place NW are slated to be demolished.  These buildings don’t appear to be in any worse shape than a lot of other vacant row-houses in the city… unfortunately when it gets to this stage, there isn’t much that can be done. [BloomingdaleForNow]

H Street - Sticky Rice opening soon on H street. Who would have thought that mixing All American tater tots with a full sushi bar… would work?  Well the nice looking outdoor seating sure won’t hurt!  [FrozenTropics]

Penn Quarter - Madame Tussauds finally lowers ticket prices. Only tourists go to this place right? [WhyGentrify]

Anacostia - Urban decay’s finer side, there’s a certain character and intricate story in urban decay. It’s deciding what should be preserved that’s the hard part. [AnacostiaNow

Silver Spring - America’s stupidest bike lane is right in our own backyard. It’s 20 feet to nowhere, the wrong way, down a one way street… how long before you think they fix it? [GreaterGreatWashington]

Blogs in the Hood - It’s a beautiful day in the bloggerhood when potential D.C. homeowners or renters can scour the Internet to find answers to almost any question they might have about their future digs. Don’t know how we forgot to mention this, but the Express filed a great report on neighborhood blogs, and they quoted DCMetrocentric a bunch of time in the article too! Who knew people loved Pricechecker so much? Bloomingdale- Could speed bumps be coming soon to the neighborhood? Yes but it looks like DDOT half-assed it! [bloomingdale for now]

Giants on WisconsinThe long-awaited Giant grocery store and surrounding redevelopment, expected to bring life back to its location on Wisconsin Avenue near the National Cathedral, is a bit closer to becoming reality. DCMud reports on the project which aims to make the stretch more pedestrian friendly and we think it’s about time they replace the G.C. Murphy Co which has been vacant for years! [DCMUD]

Art Deco Teeter - The Harris Teeter in Adams Morgan celebrated its grand opening with a star studded (for DC) ribbon cutting ceremony for the store. The project which has been a long time coming was welcomed to the neighborhood by the Mayor as well as Ward 1 Council members. Do you think they will let us roller-skate down the aisles for old times sake? [DCist]

The Teeter Effect - I don’t know if any of these Tajma Teeters will ever be a routine grocery stop for me, but it’s exciting to have them in the city, and hopefully they will inspire other grocers (Safeway and Giant) to take a hard look at how they do business. With new Teeters coming to NoMa and Capitol Hill, it is going to be harder and harder to ignore (and avoid) the fact that they have the best salad bar… and pretty good soup too!  [RenewShaw]

Columbia Heights -Just when people thought the Target in Columbia Heights had everything, there’s talk of it getting even more” [DCist]

Brookland -You will see visions of open plazas, farmers markets, connectivity from Michigan Ave to 10th Street, new residential development and deck parking. It’s a grand vision of what the metro area of Brookland could become” [StopBlogandRoll]

Georgetown -Trees for Georgetown has begun its 2008 Spring planting; 40 of the 60 trees are already in the ground and we expect the last of the trees to be planted by mid-March“  Trees make a huge difference to an area obviously, and the folks in Georgetown know this better than most! [Georgetowner]

Ivy City -The neighborhood of rowhouses and small apartment buildings tucked behind the old Hecht’s warehouse off New York Avenue NE has a contractor remodeling or building on nearly every block”  Isn’t this what it was like in NoMA a few years ago, could it be a sign of things to come? [WPost]

Near Southeast -With a surprise motion at the end of last night’s second-stage PUD hearing, the Zoning Commission has given preliminary approval to the design of RiverFront on the Anacostia“ The Florida Rock site is the closest riverfront access to the new stadium and offers the best opportunity for creating a promenade where people will want to stay after games and come to even when there isn’t one! [JDLand, Photo Credit]

9 03 2008

Columbia Heights- “Looking to cash in on lucrative market, landlords use “vacancy exemption” to turn rentals into condos”  This seems to only be happening in the areas that are rapidly being redeveloped, sounds like borderline criminal behavior to us! [WPost]

Dupont Circle - “First of all, I find Dupont Circle to be one of the most irritatingly pretentious neighborhoods in a city filled with irritatingly pretentious residents”  Wow buddy! We think it’s a little extreme to pass such harsh judgement on such a great area after merly getting jilted by the patrons at Teaism. Maybe one of their salty oat cookies will make you feel better! [FreeSilver]

Federal Triangle - “I am not satisfied with the relevance and the powers afforded this new position and have concluded that as the position is currently structured, the Housing Chief cannot play the role the Task Force intended”  Mayor Fenty’s housing chief resigns after feeling marginalized since being appointed last year, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time! [Washington BizJournal]

Ballston - “Dominion Virginia Power said yesterday that it plans to begin construction next month… in north Arlington, the largest power-line expansion in that area in more than a decade.“  With all those new condos, it’s amazing they didn’t need to do this sooner!  [WPost]

Washington Area - “Nominations are in for the James Beard Foundation Awards. The list includes nods to a number of locals.“  Personally we here at DCMetrocentric are more concerned with who will win the Golden Clog!  [DCist]
