29 05 2008

Your weekly chance to take a stab at real estate appraisal.

Now that you’ve gotten a chance to check out the lovely modern glass home in Forest Hills Northwest and all your guesses are in… we can reveal that the award winning home can be yours for only $3.5 million.

The guesses were a little all over the place, but the high guesses are understandable given the way the thing looks at night. The residence was designed by award-winning architect Travis L. Price as his own personal home (good call JRad).

Maybe there is something in the DCMetrocentric watercooler, but for some reason we are really into contemporary architecture this week. Today’s PriceChecker is a ridiculous modern home by an AIA award winning architect.

Located in Forest Hill Northwest near Rock Creek Park, this three bed room 3,500 sq-ft home is a copper and steel sentinal that has all the new sustainability design elements. It was actually built to be the home for the architect who designed it.

So take your best guess and we will crown a winner next Wednesday afternoon, and should you need some more information to help you, follow the jump for the realtor spin and another photo of the slightly nautical other side of the house…

PriceChecker: 24 Units in NE - It’s the Big Reveal

16 05 2008

Your weekly chance to take a stab at real estate appraisal.

Ok we know this was a hard one, but you all made good efforts with your guesses on the nice 24 Unit Condo building in Northeast. Now that the results are in, we can reveal that the newly renovated building is on the market for $5.9 million.

Since the building is not occupied yet, this is a huge liability to take on and we are guessing the owner is trying to dump the property just to get it off it’s books. However since it’s ready to go, it would be a great opportunity to jump into the building management business… and if you’re interested in that, you may also be interested in a bridge we would like to sell you in Brooklyn!

PriceChecker: Thomas Circle - It’s The Big Reveal

29 04 2008

Your weekly chance to take a stab at real estate appraisal.

Well done with the guesses…

All the results are in and counted, and the listed price for the ultra modern gem of a penthouse on Thomas Circle is $575,000.

We still don’t know what the deal with the kitchen layout is though…

Apparently many of the units in the building are set up in the same strange way! Maybe they figure most of the residents don’t do much cooking anyway, so it doesn’t matter! Oh yeah and the realtor still has it listed as a short sell, though it’s been on the market for a while… so that tactic doesn’t seem to be working to move the property.

The building is nice and new with a reserved parking space, stainless steel appliances, granite counters, slate floors, and of course washer dryer in unit, but beware… the seller is highly motivated to do a quick sell, so take that into account with your guesses!

So take your best guess and we will crown a winner next Tuesday afternoon, and should you need some more information to help you, follow the jump for the realtor spin and a picture of the very strange looking kitchen…

PriceChecker: Cleveland Park - Big Reveal

8 04 2008

Your weekly chance to take a stab at real estate appraisal.

Well all the guesses are in and the 8 bedroom in Cleveland Park is on the market for a hefty $7.5 million. Despite the relatively large lot size for the area, the place just can’t be worth that much considering the realtor doesn’t even post any interior photos and upfront says the property is AS-IS!

It does have a pool and a wrap-around porch, but still there is a huge of sticker shock! They couldn’t have sold it for that much even if it was 2006! Congratulations to modernshackintheback for the most irrational guess, and thus the right one. We put the chances of a price chop in the next month at close to 100%, so if you are interested just be patient and you can save a few bucks!

This house is perfect for that grand old dame looking for an old Victorian to call home. The 8 bedroom, 6.5 bath mansion in Cleveland Park manages to pull off that classic Victorian look despite the red clay roof that you would be more likely to see in Santa Fe! It’s on a fairly large lot so take that into account, but note that the description by the realtor has the ominous AS-IS statement!

So take your best guess and we will crown a winner next Tuesday afternoon, and should you need some more information to help you, follow the jump for the realtor spin…
